Yayasan Perkumpulan Anak Desa

Taman Kanak-kanak "Sandie Kresna"

Banjar Tegal Suci

Tampaksiring 80552 Gianyar district
Bali Indonesia

The Village Children’s Association, named in Indonesian Yayasan Perkumpulan Anak Desa, is located on the island of Bali, in the village of Tampaksiring, on the road to Kintamani, that is to Gunung Batur volcano. Tampaksiring is at about 13 km from Ubud, a small town where most visitors live in, and at about 40 km from the airport or Kuta area. It takes one hour and a half drive to go from Kuta to Tampaksiring. Roads are good enough but the speed is low... There is also a good system of public transportation (bemo), if you don’t mind waiting a bit to catch one ! There is no public transportation timetable. You just have to wave your (right) hand when you see a bemo, and it’ll stop (if not full). If you intend to stay long enough, you might consider to rent a motorbike. Don't forget to check on your insurances before you go.

The Yayasan Perkumpulan Anak Desa (ADEDVI in French) is behind the primary school N°6 and in front of the AMARAWATI high school.

The Yayasan Perkumpulan Anak Desa is working hand in hand with most primary schools of Tampaksiring to provide them with a rolling library (or “perpustakaan keliling”, thanks to the help of Nyoman Arcana) or with the creation of a library (thanks to a punctual aid from the French association "Sourires d'Indonésie"), with environmental projects (recycling and making compost) as well as health campaigns (non-smoking).

On the village main road there is a board showing the street to follow to reach the association within the banjar Tegal Suci at Tampaksiring village.

WHERE TO STAY?

The association welcomes volunteers and trainees in a Balinese host family. Our volunteers and trainees from abroad give around 5 euro (rp. 60.000) a day (per person) to cover their meals (lunch and dinner), use of water and electricity, and local taxes. It gives them the opportunity to experience a Balinese life style. The host family lives a few minutes walk from the association.

COMMODITIES IN THE VILLAGE

There are 2 or 3 good drugstores at Tampaksiring, selling anything you need. They also offer photocopies and laminating. There are 2 wartels (or communication centers) and a warnet (internet center).

Tampaksiring market is lively and friendly but be sure of knowing how to bargain ! Every evening, from 5 p.m to 7:30 or 8 p.m, you can eat very cheap Indonesian and Balinese food or sweets there. At noon, it is possible to buy nasi bungkus (packed rice with a bit of meat and vegetables) or bakso (a meat ball soup with vermicelli) or sate (brochette) at streetvendors peddling along the main street or stopping at crossroads. Balinese families are also very friendly and won’t let anyone “forget” to eat or share their meal.

SCHOOLS IN THE VILLAGE

There are about 6 primary schools , two junior high schools (one governmental and one vocational/private), and two senior high schools (one governmental and one vocational/private). The vocational (private) high school is indeed dedicated to offer higher studies to poorer students who cannot afford the governmental high school of Tampaksiring. The governmental high school prefers to recruit students with very good marks.

Children and students attending our foundation come from all around Tampaksiring, some as far as Pejeng, Basangambu or Kedisan.
